Londoners were surprised by a snow shower as they made their way to work during the morning rush hour.
Commuters reported seeing a light flurry of snow fall in parts of the capital including Chingford, Enfield and Ilford.
Tube passengers who were struggling to get to work during a 24-hour strike by Central line drivers said the wintry flurries had started fall as they queued outside stations in the cold.
Gurvir Deol wrote: “Standing In the cold and it decided to snow. Kick a man when he's down @centralline @TfLRail #TubeStrike.”
Pete MacKenzie said: “30 second snow flurry in London... Gridlock! Panic! Keep the kids off school! Panic buy gluten free pesto! #London #snowpocalypse.”
Sarah Goddard tweeted: “Oh no...that's not snow on #tubestrike day and when I'm wearing a dress! #Adultreactiontosnow.”
Another commuter, tweeting under the name Sabs, said: "Emperor penguins at Ilford station! 45 mins in the queue so far. And it's started to snow! #TubeStrike #snow #gross."
Others posted about the snowfall on Facebook.
Maurice Vallo said: "Is anyone else seeing snow in London?"
The Met Office had not forecast the wintry showers.
