1/14

Hundreds of dapper-looking cyclists took to the streets of central London for the 10th anniversary special of the Tweed Run.

Snappily dressed riders donned their finest tweeds, flat caps and brogues to descend on the capital for the eccentric annual event.

The 12-mile bike ride, which featured penny farthings and vintage bicycles, started in Elephant and Castle before taking in a host of London’s landmarks and ending up at in Clerkenwell at Cycle Revolution Festival.

Many participants and delighted onlookers took to social media to share colourful pictures as the mass of cyclists sailed past in a blaze of green, brown and grey.

Photographs of the well-dressed riders show some of the participants sporting elaborate facial hair and chequered socks.

There were stop-offs along the way to take tea, tuck into a picnic or even enjoy a pint.

Hailed as “the metropolitan bicycle ride with a bit of style”, over its 10 years The Tweed Run has gained international success.

The New York Times’ legendary street style photographer, Bill Cunningham, was quoted as saying The Tweed Run was “reinventing the catwalk” when it visited New York.

Once all riders arrived at the finish, a customary humorous closing ceremony took place with prizes awarded for the best-dressed man and woman, smartest bicycle and finest moustache.
