A man was attacked near a Tube station after he tried to stop someone from aggressively harassing women twice.

The victim was travelling on board a train between Canary Wharf and Abbey Wood at roughly 12.15am on December 22 when they saw a man acting aggressively towards a woman.

British Transport Police said in a statement that "the victim intervened to deescalate the situation before leaving the train at Abbey Wood station."

The man also ended his journey here and as the victim exited the station the man became aggressive to a group of women outside.

Again, the victim tried to deescalate the situation, but he was then assaulted by the man.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection to the incident.

Following enquiries, the British Transport Police (BTP) believe there may be another man and woman who were also assaulted by the attacker at Abbey Road station.

The force is appealing for witnesses and victims to come forward.

Anyone with information can contact the BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 with the reference 17 of 22/12/23.
