An amateur photographer has captured the amazing moment a double rainbow was seen over Tower Bridge as the capital endured a sudden downpour.

Trevor Norris snapped the beautiful shot after leaving work in the City yesterday afternoon while a thunderstorm raged.

The 56-year-old entrepreneur, who commutes to London for work from Birmingham, said the picture held personal significance for him because he had previously seen double rainbows after the funerals of two close friends.

He told the Standard: "I own a holiday cottage in Devon and our elderly neighbours down there both died within eight months of each other last year.

"When we buried them, there were double rainbows - so the scene yesterday reminded me of that.

"It was like the weather was telling us that they will be ok."

He continued: "It was pretty miserable weather yesterday but I just spotted the rainbow. For it to be framed by Tower Bridge was stunning."

Londoners yesterday faced rain and hail amid sunny spells and a maximum temperature of 16C.

Forecasters today said the city would enjoy more sun with some scattered showers. Temperatures are expected to peak at 10C.

The weather is predicted to hot up towards the weekend, with temperatures potentially reaching 20C on Friday.
