London weather: Summer to get back on track as glorious weekend predicted

Mark Chandler3 June 2016

London is set to be hotter than Rio de Janeiro this weekend - but sunbathers may still have to pack their umbrellas to avoid some heavy rain.

The Met Office is predicting a high of 24C tomorrow, with the mercury rising to 25C on Sunday as the capital is to bask in glorious sunshine.

However, Saturday is actually expected to get off to a damp and misty start, with low cloud hanging over the city during the morning.

Over the course of the day, the clouds will start to lift, leading to a much warmer afternoon with spiraling temperatures.

It comes after Londoners complained of chilly temperatures as northerly winds and thick cloud bought an autumnal feel to the capital for much of this week.

However, forecasters warn there is still a risk of heavy showers to dampen the mood this weekend.

On Sunday, the Met Office expects a dry and fine day with even higher temperatures.

And the warm weather will run on into Monday, despite the risk of further showers, with high temperatures expected to continue throughout the week.
