Londoners are set to enjoy sunny spells this week as mild weather hits the capital – but typical British weather is predicted to return ahead of the Easter weekend.
Many awoke to eagerly anticipated clear skies and warmer temperatures on Monday and forecasters have predicted the spring-like weather will last for much of this week.
But forecasters have warned that the band of high pressure currently above the UK is set to breakdown before the Easter bank holiday.
As the high pressure disappears, temperature is set to dip below average, with some rain showers and breezy spells likely to be present.
Alex Burkill, meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “As we go through the later part of next week and approach the Easter weekend, we are likely to see a turn to more unsettled conditions. Things are likely to turn a little colder by Easter weekend.
“At the moment we are indicating it is going to be a little bit cooler than average, not ground breakingly colder, but a heatwave is not looking likely.
“We have a prolonged period of nice weather and that will remain this week, but as we go through next week, it will get a bit cooler than average.
“Average temperatures are 16 to 17 degrees in the south, rising to 18.5 degrees in London.
“We may see some rain and also breezy conditions as well.
“We have got high pressure over us at the moment and that is likely to last a while, but it will break down next week which will bring the wetter weather and breeze.”
