London woke to a stunning winter sunrise as the capital’s skyline was bathed in an orange glow after a freezing night.

Clear skies in the south led to a chilly start to Sunday across the capital with the mercury plunging to as low as -7C.

But despite the bracing temperatures, Londoners were treated to a stunning sunrise as bright orange and red skies loomed over the capital at dawn.

Glorious photos of the spectacular sunrise were taken from Primrose Hill early in the morning.

Iconic skyscrapers including the Shard, the Gherkin, Walkie-Talkie tower and the Cheesegrater looked impressive lit up by the glowing sky.

The orange sun was pictured rising above St Paul’s Cathedral.

A few people gathered at the top of the hill were lucky enough to witness the sunrise first hand.

One family, who were wrapped up warm against the cold, were pictured taking a selfie.

The capital has been hit by a cold snap, which began on Tuesday night when temperatures plunged below freezing.

Daytime temperatures peaked at about 5C and plummeted to as low as -7C most nights with the conditions forecast to last into next week.
