London is braced for gale-force winds and heavy rain after forecasters issued a weather warning for the capital.
A yellow warning of wind has been issued by the Met Office, alerting Londoners that severe weather could hit the capital on Saturday.
Forecasters have warned that the wet and windy conditions are expected across southern England and the west of Wales.
Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said wind speeds could reach 40 or 50mph in the capital and could be as high as 60 or 70mph on the south coast.
He told the Standard: “Saturday will see wet and windy weather moving in from the Atlantic which will affect the southern counties.
“In London there will be heavy showers and strong winds of around 40 or 50mph. There is a yellow wind warning in force for Saturday including in London.
“Temperatures will be around 16 or 17C but will feel a bit cooler because of the wind.”
The Met Office is closely monitoring the situation and if the yellow warning is upgraded to an amber warning then the weather system will be classed as a storm.
If it becomes a storm it will be named Storm Brian.
Earlier in the week three people were killed when Storm Ofelia battered the UK and Ireland, bringing with it hurricane-force winds as high as 119mph.
Mr Dewhurst said: "We are going to keep an eye on it for the next couple for days but at the moment it looks like a typical area of low pressure."
He added: “By Sunday the wind will ease but a wet and windy start to next week is expected.”
Thursday and Friday will see grey skies with patchy rain and possibly the occasional bright spell.
