Severe flooding and heavy thunderstorms are expected to hit London for the second week in a row.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for today as slow moving downpours are expected to sweep across the whole of the capital.

Forecaster Emma Sharples said that while she wasn't expecting scenes as bad as last week, there was still a high risk of surface flooding, with 15 to 25mm of rain falling within an hour.

She added: “There could be some quite heavy, slow moving downpours so they will hang around in one area for a while.

“If you do get that amount of rain in an urban area like London, you will get surface area flooding.”

The flood warnings will remain in place until 9pm tonight.

A severe, yellow weather warning also remains in place for Wednesday, with predicted heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Flooding in London caused chaos last week, as drivers were plucked from submerged cars in Wallington and passengers were rescued from a flooded North Harrow station.
