Londoners are spending up to 16 days each year commuting with some losing up to four hours a day travelling to work, a survey has found.
According to the findings, over 65 per cent of workers lose 16 days a year commuting to and from work while one in five have the longest commute in the UK with daily travel taking up to four hours.
But out of the 1,200 workers polled, more than half of professionals said they enjoy their commute – although over two thirds said they would move house if it meant their journey was shorter.
Around 45 per cent of London workers would turn down a job if it meant a longer commute, the study by job website CV Library found.
It comes after a separate study last year revealed the number of London commuters travelling two hours or more each day had increased by nearly 20 per cent in five years.
Last month research showed millions of commuters walk the equivalent of a marathon every fortnight just getting to and from work.
Swanley in Kent was ranked London’s best commuter town, closely followed by Bushey and Watford in Hertfordshire.
Lee Biggins, boss of company CV Library, said: “Unfortunately, commuting is often part of the job, especially for those living in bigger cities where inner-city housing can be expensive or in short supply.
“That said it’s alarming to learn that many professionals in the capital could be losing days, even weeks, each year to their commute.”
