A "kind and loving" London father collapsed and died metres from the finish line in his first 10k race.

Czeslaw Dudek, from Feltham, fell ill 400 metres before the end of the Asics Weybridge Sports 10k Run in Surrey on Sunday.

Medics battled to save the 37-year-old’s life but he was pronounced dead in hospital the same day.

The father-of-one’s wife Sylwia Dudek described her husband as a “loving and kind dad”.

She told the website getwestlondon: “It was such a sudden death and such a shock to us that something like that could happen and that we just really miss him already.

"He was a very loving and kind dad."

Neighbour Daryll Brierly said Mr Dudek was a “lovely man”.

He added: “He just always took time out to wave at you and say hello.”

Donors have pledged £12,400 in just three days to support Mr Dudek’s family, including his seven-year-old daughter.

More than 500 people have added to an online fundraising page, set up by friend Ilo Bienkowska, which read: “On Sunday 5th March 2017, our dear friend and colleague, Czeslaw Dudek, took part in the Asics Weybridge Sports 10k Run, his first ever timed running event.

“His sudden death has left his wife and seven year old daughter in tragic situation and shatter their lives.

“No amount of money will bring Czeslaw back, but hopefully it will help his family do whatever they need to do.”
