Man and Good Samaritan who talked him down from Westminster Bridge tackle London Marathon together

Two men who met when one talked the other out of jumping from Westminster Bridge have tackled the London Marathon together.

Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn met in January 2008 when Mr Benjamin attempted to take his own life by jumping into the Thames.

Mr Laybourn became his Good Samaritan after talking him to safety.

Eight years later, Mr Benjamin tracked down his saviour using a social media campaign dubbed ‘Find Mike’.

The pair were reunited in a TV documentary that warmed the hearts of the nation.

On Saturday, they undertook the 26.6 mile course across the capital to raise funds for mental health charity Heads Together.

The duo, aged 30 and 34, were invited to run for the cause by patrons the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

They resolved to take on the race while on the train together last year, on their way to a Heads Together event with the Royals as they, in their own words, got “swept away in the moment”.

They are set to raise around £50,000 for the cause.

Mr Benjamin told the Telegraph: “It’s going to be emotional, very emotional.

“But we’re all in it together and I’m excited to be a part of it - it’s a privilege.”
