A man has been arrested after a security breach at Buckingham Palace in the early hours of this morning.

The 22-year-old from Croydon climbed a fence at around 4.15am but was spotted by officers who were watching CCTV.

He was then arrested within a security perimeter on suspicion of trespassing.

The man, who had been drinking, was not armed and no Taser was deployed by officers.

He is currently in custody at a central London police station.

A Met Police spokesman said: “At approximately 04:15hrs on Tuesday, 9 August, officers arrested a 22-year-old from Croydon on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site (contrary to section 128 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005) after he climbed over a security fence at Buckingham Palace.

“The breach is not believed to be terrorism-related.”
