Family and friends of a tree surgeon killed in a freak accident involving a chainsaw have paid tribute to him.
Romanian national Gregery Bulbuc was pronounced dead from a neck injury at the scene of the accident in Banyard Road in Bermondsey on Wednesday morning.
The 31-year-old’s brother Ioan Bulbuc, who also works as a tree surgeon, told the Daily Mail Mr Bulbuc was the father of a one-year-old boy and had lived in the UK for about 15 years.
He said: “He was always so happy. He was so happy to have a little boy.
"Gregery's birthday was next week, he was such a happy person.”
Marc Isitt said on Facebook: "Rest in peace Greg Bulbuc, an amazing bloke that sadly lost his life today while working.
"My love goes out to his family and friends, you where taken way too soon dude and you will be sadly missed."
Scotland Yard said Mr Bulbuc suffered a neck injury and died at the scene. The Health and Safety executive has been informed.
A witness told the Standard he saw a tree surgeon being worked on by paramedics and a chainsaw lying nearby.
He said: “There was a lot of blood on the roof of the school next door where the tree was hanging over.
“I saw them giving him CPR and blood.
“I was on the fourth floor of the estate across the road after the emergency services got there and could see into the garden.
“I saw the ladder, the ropes and chainsaw, and the man on the floor.”
Another man, Charlie Brenland said he saw police cordon off the road, adding: "Witnesses and the police said there had been an accident with a worker on one of the trees.
"Someone there said one of the tree surgeons had an accident with a chainsaw."
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called to Banyard Road at 11.11am on Wednesday, February 15 to reports of a man injured.
“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance have attended.
“A man, believed to be in his 30s, suffered a neck injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Next of kin have been informed.
“This is believed to be a workplace accident and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be informed in due course.”
A LAS spokesman said: “We sent an ambulance crew, a single responder in a car, a paramedic on a motorcycle, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.
"We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“Sadly, despite the extensive efforts of our crews, a patient died at the scene.”
A spokesman for the HSE said it was "aware and assisting the Metropolitan Police in their investigation and HSE inspectors are attending the site".
