A motorist was rushed to hospital after his car smashed into a tree on a roundabout in south-east London.

The car crashed at a roundabout in Carlyle Road, Thamesmead, at the junction of Bentham Road, at about 6.30pm on Sunday.

The vehicle had flipped onto its side and come to a rest against a tree.

Emegency services were called to the scene, and a man in his 20s was treated for neck and back injuries.

He was taken as a priority to Kings College Hospital, but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Roads in the area were closed following the crash, but reopened just before midnight.
