'Massive pile-up' in Bexleyheath as two bus smash leaves 16 people injured

Two buses collided in a south east London suburb today leaving at least 16 people injured, according to reports.

A 269 bus is said to have crashed into a B11 bus, causing it to hit four cars and a van in front on Bexleyheath Broadway.

The crash at about 1pm today has reportedly resulted in 16 people, including a bus driver, being left with minor injuries, the London Ambulance Service said.

The victims were taken to Queen Elizabeth, Durham Valley, Princess Royal and Lewisham hospitals for a range of injuries including back, neck, arm and stomach pain.

Fire crews were called to free at least four people who became trapped in the vehicles, the London Fire Brigade said.

Witnesses reported the incident had caused a "massive pile up".

George Seddon tweeted: "Some massive pile up near Asda in Bexleyheath, fire engines police the whole shabang."

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.10pm to Broadway, Bexleyheath to reports of a road traffic collision.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including five ambulance crews, our hazardous area response team and duty manager. We treated 16 people."

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "We were called to Bexleyheath Broadway at 1.10pm to reports of four cars in collision with a van and two buses.

"None of the injuries sustained were reported to be life-threatening or life-changing. There was congestion while the incident was dealt with."
