Mother of cyclist killed by truck ‘hopes lessons have been learnt’

Tragedy: Akis Kollaros was crushed after a tipper truck failed to indicate in Homerton

The family of a cyclist killed by a tipper truck driver who failed to indicate before turning left today said lessons must be learned from his death.

Music producer Akis Kollaros, 34, died instantly as he was crushed beneath a Mercedes truck in Homerton in February last year when the driver suffered a “momentary lapse” of concentration.

Robert Taylor, 51, a lorry driver from Dartford, was jailed for 20 weeks after pleading guilty to careless driving at Wood Green crown court on Friday.

Mr Kollaros’s mother Maria Kollarou, who flew in from Greece for the hearing, said: “Nothing can bring back the son I loved so dearly.

“I sincerely hope lessons have been learnt from this tragic incident and that cycling on London’s roads will become safer as a result of Akis’s death.”
