A motorcyclist broke her pelvis and was knocked unconscious after being hit by another motorcyclist near Elephant and Castle today.

The woman was stretchered off the road after the accident on Great Dover Street just before 10am.

She was taken to a central London hospital for further treatment following the crash at the junction with Spurgeon Street, the London Ambulance Service said.

The other motorcyclist was not reported to have suffered any injures. Neither motorcyclist was arrested over the accident, police said.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.53am to reports of a road traffic collision at Great Dover Street and Spurgeon Street in SE1.

"We sent two responders by car, an ambulance crew and an incident officer to the scene.

"We treated a woman reported to be in her thirties for a hip injury.

"She was taken as a priority to Kings College Hospital."

Part of the road was closed while police investigated but has since been reopened.
