The 60 most unusual attractions in London have been revealed in a new book celebrating the city’s unheralded landmarks.

London Uncovered features more than 60 historic locations across the city, including ballrooms, shoes shops, museums and institutions.

Among the many featured locations are the Rivoli Ballroom featuring a surviving 1950s dance hall, the Norfolk Cloister, where the offside rule was invented, and the former home of the Dukes of Wellington at Apsley House.

Photographer Peter Dazeley told the Standard: “I’m a born and bred Londoner and it all started when I photographed Battersea Power Station which produced a wonderful set of imagery.

“There was a lot of interest in it and I thought this would be an interesting subject for a follow up.

Mr Dazeley added that among his favourite locations in the book were the Norfolk Cloisters at the Charterhouse and John Lobb bootmakers.

He said: "The cover of the book is the Norfolk Cloisters where the boys went to play football and apparently where the offside rule was invented.

"One of the most exciting places was John Lobb shoe makers where they make shoes for the royal family and celebrities.

"They wouldn't let us photograph anyone wearing the shoes but we found designs for Princess Diana and Frank Sinatra."

Mr Dazeley added that he hoped the book would encourage Londoners to go and visit more local attractions.

London Uncovered, photographed by Peter Dazeley and written by Mark Daly, goes on sale on October 6 for £30.
