Thousands of American football fanatics descended on central London as the award-winning NFL on Regent Street returned to the famous shopping hotspot.

The celebration, which kicked off at midday on Saturday, comes the day before New Orleans Saints take on the Miami Dolphins at Wembley.

The length of Regent Street from Piccadilly Circus to Oxford Circus became a colourful festival of football, with coaches and players from the two teams making an appearance.

They include stars such as Saints quarterback Drew Brees and London-born Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi, while former Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino was also spotted by adoring fans.

A stage show featured interviews with NFL legends, music acts and performances by the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders.

Many people have taken to social media to describe the "cracking" atmosphere.

Meanwhile fans enjoyed interactive games testing how far participants can throw a ball and kick a field goal.

And the NFL Lab showed how revellers measured up against the professionals.

People attending the event were also able to go shopping for NFL gear and make the most of the various food and drink outlets.
