Elderly Notting Hill residents are being whisked off on a free seaside holiday so they can avoid the world famous carnival taking place over the Bank Holiday.
Two million revellers are due to flock to the neighbourhood over the three day celebration, which starts on Saturday.
But 39 older North Kensington residents will be heading to Eastbourne so they can avoid rowdy crowds in a trip organised by Age UK and funded by Kensington and Chelsea council.
They are setting off for the south coast on Saturday to enjoy three days by the sea, before returning on Tuesday morning once Carnival’s sound systems and crowds have departed.
Councillor Emma Will said: “Carnival is a wonderful celebration and we’re so excited to welcome it back to our streets, but we equally respect that the sound systems and crowds are not for everyone.
“We’re proud to support Age UK in arranging this seaside break and I hope our residents enjoy the sea air, some fish and chips and an ice cream or two over the bank holiday weekend.”
This weekend’s carnival will be the first in three years following the pandemic.
