A road sign mistakenly directing drivers to the London borough of ‘Hownslow’ instead of Hounslow has been ridiculed by residents.

The mistake was spotted yesterday after it was erected outside a new Asda supermarket on the Westlands Estate, Millington Road, in Hayes, by a Dutch company.

One Twitter user wrote: “Seriously a spelling mistake on the sign near the new Asda! You’ve spelt #Hounslow wrong!”

Another user named Mimi said: “New sign by Asda Hayes. Spot the (deliberate?) mistake.”

A spokeswoman for Hillingdon Council said the local authority did not put up the sign but have notified the company in charge.

Royal HaskoningDHV, who are managing the whole Asda development, said: "The error on the sign has been spotted and it is currently in the process of being rectified.”
