A pedestrian is fighting for his life in hospital after being trapped beneath a lorry in Hackney.

Police, paramedics and the fire service were scrambled to the scene in Clapton Common shortly after 9am on Monday.

A huge emergency presence was reported at the scene, including London’s Air Ambulance.

London Ambulance Service said: “We treated a man at the scene before taking him to a major trauma centre.”

A section of the A107 Clapton Common, between Stamford Hill junction and Leweston Place, was cordoned off while emergency services attended the scene.

Shortly after 2pm the Met Police said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the man suffered “serious injuries” in the crash.

“Several road closured have been put in place that are likely to cause significant disruption, including to bus routes in the Stamford Hill, Clapton Common area,” said the Met in its X post. “TfL have been made aware.

“A crime scene is in place and will remain in place whilst officers investigate. Enquiries are ongoing.”

In a further statement Scotland Yard confirmed officers were called by the ambulance service at 9.09am.

They said: “A lorry was reported to have been in collision with a pedestrian.

“A person was reported trapped and LFB were called to the scene.

“Local road closures were in place while emergency services were in attendance.

“The injuries have been confirmed to be life-threatening.”
