A pensioner who was rescued from a blaze at a flat in west London has died.

The man, reported to be in his 60s, needed hospital treatment after the fire took hold just before 3pm on Friday in the ground floor flat on Great Western Road in Notting Hill.

He died on Saturday after suffering burns to his chest, arm and leg, the London Fire Brigade said.

Investigators are probing what sparked the blaze.

About 20 firefighters from North Kensington, Kensington and Paddington fire stations were called to the scene.

They had the fire under control by 4pm, the brigade said.

The victim was taken as a priority to St Mary's hospital, a spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said.

Another person was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Hammersmith hospital.

Police were also called to the incident and helped to cordon off the area but they are not investigating any criminal offence, Scotland Yard said on Friday.
