A pensioner who lost photos of his honeymoon and 15 years of contacts is suing tech giant Apple because he said staff wiped his phone.

Deric White, 68, claimed he took his iPhone5 to the company’s Regent Street store when he received text messages saying there was a fault with his handset.

Mr White, from Pimlico, said staff examined the phone and returned it to him saying it was “sorted”, at which point he realised the phone had been wiped of data.

He said: “It was only after staff fiddled around they asked if I’d backed my things up.”

Mr White will face Apple in court today to try to claim £5,000 for the loss, to pay for another honeymoon.

“My life was saved on that phone. I lost my favourite video of a giant tortoise biting my hand on honeymoon in the Seychelles,” he said.
