A pensioner has been taken to hospital with a serious head injury after she was hit by a car in Tottenham.

The 80-year-old woman was knocked down in Tottenham High Road, Tottenham, just before 2pm today.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and has not been arrested, a spokesman for Scotland Yard said.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service took the victim to an east London hospital but her injuries, which also included a fracture to her left leg, were not thought to be "life-threatening", he added.

Officers from the Met's Road and Transport Policing Command are investigating the crash.

Motorists were advised the road, which was closed next to the junction with Philip Lane while police investigated.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101.
