Police have launched an urgent appeal to find a missing man who cannot remember his own name.

Mehmet Calik, 52, who has a severe form of dementia called Korsakoff’s Syndrome , was last seen by his care worker at his home in Royal Oak Road, Hackney, on Thursday morning.

His family are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare as he does not remember his own name and is likely to be confused and disorientated.

Mr Calik, who is 6ft tall and of slim build, is not believed to have a mobile phone, travel card or money with him.

He was last seen at 9.50am wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a cream coloured top and black shoes.

He is known to frequent Islington, the Angel area, Kings Cross and Hackney.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley, from Hackney CID, said: "I have a number of officers involved in searching for Mehmet. At this time we have no means of tracing his whereabouts and I am therefore heavily relying on sightings from members of the public.

“He is known to frequent coffee shops and catholic churches. Mehmet is not dangerous but likely to display signs of confusion.

“If seen, please approach, engage him in conversation and call police immediately so that he can be provided with the professional support he requires.”

Anyone with information should call Hackney Police on 101 or Missing People on 116000, quoting reference number 16MIS018392.
