Three people are in hospital after a police car collided with another car on a busy road.

Two officers and the other driver were taken to hospital with “non life-threatening” injuries after the smash on Commercial Street in Limehouse, East London, at 7.30am on Thursday.

Dripping petrol from the wreck meant that the London Fire Brigade was called as a precaution.

Images on social media show the police car with a crushed bonnet and its airbags exposed after it had mounted the pavement by a lampost.

The other car a black Ford had all its doors open.

A Met spokesman said: “Officers are dealing after a collision in Tower Hamlets.

“A police vehicle was in a collision with a car.

“Two officers and a member of the public have been taken to hospital by LAS, their injuries are not thought life-changing or threatening.”

“LFB attended due to vehicles leaking on to the road.”

He warned motorists to expect delays as emergency services deal with the collision.
