Police name 86-year-old victim after Elephant and Castle crash

An 86-year-old woman who died after she was hit by a lorry at a major junction in south London has today been named by police.

Johanna Hedger, also known as Ann, who lived in Blackfriars, was pronounced dead at the scene in New Kent Road, Elephant and Castle after the collision on Friday, February 5.

Police, paramedics and a London Air Ambulance were called just after 12.30pm but were unable to save her.

The driver of the lorry, a 52-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after he stopped at the scene.

He has since been bailed to a date in May pending further enquiries.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing an appeal for witnesses.
