Londoners have the chance to play five-a-side football against a team of retired Premier League stars to raise funds for children orphaned by Ebola.

Members of the public will be able to pit their skills against the players, who include Spurs and Euro ’96 England midfielder Darren Anderton and Arsenal and West Ham’s Nigel Winterburn.

The funds will go towards education charity Street Child’s Girls Speak Out campaign, which aims to ensure more than 20,000 children in west Africa can go to school. All the money raised will be doubled by the Government.

The charity is inviting five-a-side teams of up to seven players — including two subs — to battle it out against other teams for the honour of playing the professionals, who also include Lee Hendrie, Phil Babb and Kerry Dixon.

Street Child chief executive Tom Dannatt said: “This is a rare chance to play your former Premier League heroes and give children orphaned by Ebola the opportunity to go to school.”

The event will take place on July 15 at Powerleague next to Shoreditch High Street station. Each squad needs to pay a £175 deposit and set a £1,050 team fundraising target.
