The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall made an historic visit to the London Evening Standard today.

It was the first time a future King and Queen Consort have visited our newsroom since we were founded in 1827.

Clarence House said the Prince and the Duchess wanted to see "their local newspaper" as we went to press.

His spokeswoman said: "During their usual course of their engagements, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall wanted to visit their local newspaper."

The royal couple arrived this morning and were greeted by London Evening Standard owner Evgeny Lebedev and Editor Sarah Sands. They spent more than an hour touring the newsroom and meeting staff.

Mr. Lebedev said, "We are all privileged that The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited our newsroom today.
