Extra funds were announced today to provide help for people fleeing domestic violence during the coronavirus restrictions.

There has been a 25 per cent increase in calls to the National Domestic Abuse helpline since lockdown began on March 23.

Allegations being made to the Met police are up nine per cent on the same time last year, with 17,275 incidents recorded between March 9 and April 19.

Safe accommodation has already been found for 82 London victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Today Mayor Sadiq Khan said he would provide a further £1.5 million in specialist help.

Londoners who feel unsafe are advised to call police on 999, or press 55. The National Domestic Abuse helpline is 0808 200 0247.
