£390,000 tax bill for Asian radio station

 

The first independent 24-hour radio station for Britain’s Asian community is due in court over an unpaid tax bill of £390,000.

Avtar Lit, who owns Sunrise Radio, pledged to settle its debts when the firm appears at the High Court on Monday. A “winding up” petition in The London Gazette this week stated HM Revenue and Customs are “creditors of the company”. Sunrise’s last accounts, submitted for the tax year 2010, showed an operating loss of just over £10 million.

Mr Lit pledged that the station, which was launched in 1989, would continue broadcasting.
