A pygmy goat has gone on the loose in south London.

The animal, named Ruby by her rescuers, was found wandering through St. Helier park in Carshalton on Sunday.

A passer-by took her in overnight before handing her over to the RSCPA.

The animal charity's inspectors believe Ruby, who is in a healthy condition, was being cared for by an owner before she began roaming the streets.

Today they issued an appeal for help to trace her owner, who they believe lives locally.

RSPCA inspector Natasha Wallis said: "We think this sweet little goat is probably an escapee from a nearby garden.

"We can't say for sure that she wasn't abandoned - but she appears to be well cared for so the likely scenario is that she is a pet who went for a bit of a wander and got herself lost.

She continued: "We urge anyone who recognises this goat, or has any information about where she might have come from, to contact us. It would be so lovely to reunite her with her owner."

Anyone with information can contact the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
