A man who videoed himself driving a Lamborghini with one hand in what he said was “the stupidest thing I’ve ever done” has been banned from the road.

Aspiring rapper and restaurant boss Matin Osmani, 23, drove the car while filming the journey on his phone and uploading the footage to the internet.

He was reported to police by a member of the public who saw him behind the wheel in Great West Road in south-west London on March 11 this year.

Accompanied by his father Javed, he was sentenced at Lavender Hill magistrates’ court on Wednesday after admitting driving without due care and attention at an earlier hearing.

Osmani, who represented himself in court, said he had “bad judgment”. He told the hearing: “I was not thinking and was under the impression everyone else was streaming [themselves].

“I was in full control of my vehicle. In my view my driving is as good as anyone else’s but one thing I understand now is I made a stupid decision which I have learned from.”

The court heard Osmani was driving the sports car with one hand on the wheel with the other filming on his phone. The incident was initially reported to Cheshire Police but was then referred to the Met.

Osmani runs Man Vs Food, an American-themed restaurant in Hounslow which opened last year. He is also an aspiring rapper, under the name Matayo, and has uploaded several videos to YouTube, including two featuring a white Lamborghini.

A behind-the-scenes video to one of the shoots features him bragging about being “100 per cent real” and not “using rentals”, in reference to the car. He is also seen driving it around what appears to be west London, filmed using a camera attached to a drone.

Osmani added: “I’m 23. It was just a bad judgment call. Apart from that I have no excuse. It was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I’m not going to make any excuses.”

Magistrates chairman Michael Ross said: “You are going to be disqualified for three months. This was an extremely dangerous offence and you think it was serious enough to warrant this disqualification in its own right.”

Mr Ross said Osmani, from Chiswick, will not have to re-take his driving test. He was disqualified from driving for three months and handed a £500 fine, a £50 victim surcharge and £80 costs.
