City “superwoman” Nicola Horlick is backing the Liberal Democrat campaign to take Richmond Park from Zac Goldsmith with a warning that food costs will spiral unless Britain remains in the single market.

The businesswoman and mother-of-six will visit Kew today with Lib-Dem candidate Sarah Olney before the December 1 by-election, triggered by Mr Goldsmith’s resignation as a Tory MP in protest over Heathrow.

Ms Horlick said only the single market will protect British business. She said: “I’ve been really impressed by Sarah’s approach to business and her determination to protect British membership of the single market.”

Ms Olney, who lives in Richmond with her young family, said: “The message I am receiving on the doorstep is that local people think it is vital that we protect our membership of the single market. A vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote against hard Brexit.”
