A rickshaw flipped on its side in the street last night but its occupants escaped unhurt.

Traffic was halted when the vehicle toppled over as it made its way onto Duncannon street off Charing Cross road at 1130pm last night.

An onlooker said he saw two or possibly three adults emerge from the vehicle and that he heard a child crying who he believed was also on board.

The London Ambulance Service said they were not called to reports of any injuries.

Taxi drivers hit out at the safety of the vehicles on Twitter once the image emerged.

One posted: "Quicker this dangers off our roads the better.."

Another wrote: "Its a disgrace to London."

A report submitted to the government in June suggested the vehicles should be licensed.

In the past three years there have been 20 collisions which resulted in injury, according to the report.
