Driver's in-car film of cyclists riding next to bike lane sparks furious row among road users

A driver's film of cyclists riding adjacent to a bike lane has sparked a furious row online.

The driver, shooting video from behind the wheel of his moving car, becomes increasingly irate with a small group of cyclists on Priory Lane near Richmond Park who are riding in the road, next to a cycle lane.

As he passes each cyclist he sounds his horn telling them to use the lane, labelling them as Saturday w******.

The driver and a group of cyclists then have a confrontation at the traffic lights, where Mr Cudd says: “What’s wrong with the cycle lane? Why don’t you use the cycle lane that’s provided?”

“One sensible guy, three r******* cyclists.”

The video, originally posted on Facebook on Saturday, has been viewed by more than 50,000 times, with people both backing Mr Cudd or the cyclists.

But cyclists have criticised Mr Cudd’s behaviour, accusing him of endangering the lives of the cyclists and using a mobile while driving, while people backing Mr Cudd have accused the cyclists of dangerous riding by not using the cycle lane.

Richmond Cycling Campaign posted: “We’re asking the Roehampton Safer Neighbourhoods Team to investigate this video, and others have asked Roadsafe to do the same.

Mr Cudd filmed riders not using the cycle lane

“Not only is Mr Cudd wrong in a number of his assertions, but what appear to be a number of close passes, and his clear admission to be using his mobile phone while driving should surely result in some police attention.

“We want the roads in our area to be safe for everyone, however they’re getting around, and whatever they choose to wear – no-one should be exposed to danger or poor road behaviour like this.”

The video has since been deleted along with the Facebook account hosting it.

A Met Police spokeswoman said the video had not been reported to them.

Coffee shop owner Jason Wells was filmed on the same road last year launching a furious rant at a cyclist over cycle lanes.
