Seven people - including a toddler - leap to safety from suspicious blaze in Edmonton

Blaze: Fairfield Road in Edmonton

Seven members of the same family were taken to hospital after jumping from the first floor window of a blazing home in north London early today.

Scotland Yard said it was treating the fire at a house in Fairfield Road, Edmonton as suspicious and appealed for witnesses to the incident.

The seven occupants of the house - five children and their two parents - were taken to hospital, some suffering from smoke inhalation but none are thought to be seriously hurt.

Four fire engines attended the blaze in the ground floor of the property at 4.45am today.

Detective Inspector Chris Rixon from Enfield CID said: "We believe that the fire was started deliberately and are keen to speak to witnesses or anyone who may have information about who was responsible.

"Fortunately none of the injuries are life threatening thanks to the quick thinking, bravery and courage of the family and the prompt response of the emergency services."

A woman was treated for a broken ankle and others including a girl aged two were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Anyone with information should call Enfield CID on 020 8345 4340 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
