A main road through Shoreditch was closed at rush hour this morning as firefighters tackled a blaze in a basement.

Great Eastern Street was shut both ways between Shoreditch High Street and Curtain Road during the incident.

The London Fire Brigade said six engines were attending the blaze in the basement of an office block.

A spokeswoman said crews were called to Arnold House just after 5am.

The fire was brought under control by about 7.30am after the building was evacuated of one person.
