Drivers on the M25 were this morning faced with the alarming prospect of negotiating the hazard of smashed breezeblocks strewn in the road.

The debris on the inside lane in the anticlockwise direction confronted drivers and their passengers, who posted pictures to social media.

The obstruction caused disruption between junctions 24 and 26.

Highways England tweeted that it had closed two lanes initially but opened another lane later as work to remove the blocks progressed.
