A cyclist has filmed the moment a group of car passengers offered her a friendly high five as she travelled through central London.

Helen Clarkson titled the video 'Sometimes cycling in London isn't all that bad' and posted the uplifting moment on YouTube last week.

It shows the 25-year-old medical lab assistant cycling along Gower Street and passing through a narrow gap between cars and buses.

Suddenly a man in a black Toyota waves his hand out of the window and calls to Ms Jackson.

She then raises her hand to accept the offer of a high five. She accepts, and raucous cheers erupt from the car.

Ms Clarkson, who has been cycling in the capital for three years, told the Standard today that she decided to share the video online because she did not enjoy highlighting her "negative" experiences on London's roads.

She said: "That kind of thing never happens. I do not like always posting about negative stuff. People generally do not like cyclists because we get around on our own. People see us as a menace, which is wrong. It is a shame".

She added she uses a camera when she cycles "as insurance" in the event of an accident.

She said: "Sometimes you catch really lovely things and for everything else it is more about insurance.

"It is about proving my consistent way of cycling."
