St Patrick's Day Parade 2018: Londoners transform capital into sea of green as thousands descend on capital for annual event

Central London was transformed into a sea of green as thousands of revellers celebrated the annual St Patrick's Day Parade.

Crowds dressed up as a colourful procession of floats, marching bands and dance troupes made their way down Piccadilly past some of the city's landmarks on Sunday.

The parade passed through Piccadilly and Regent Street before finishing at Trafalgar Square.

Actress Imelda Staunton and broadcaster Gloria Hunniford led the precession as grand marshals. They were joined by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

The main celebrations took place in Trafalgar Square, with performances from a line-up of emerging Irish artists set to end with a tribute to singer-songwriter Dolores O'Riordan.

The Cranberries frontwoman died suddenly at a London hotel in January.

Official celebrations for St Patrick's Day have taken place in London since 2001.
