A motorcyclist riding a super bike died after hitting a car at up to 60mph on a quiet suburban street.

Witnesses told how the biker tried to brake before impact, causing his bike, believed to be a powerful blue Suzuki, to sit up on its nose as it hit sending him catapulting over the car and onto the road at 8.17am.

A motorist tried to revive the biker at the scene before doctors from the London Air Ambulance arrived. Despite working on the 26-year-old for up to half an hour, he was pronounced dead at the scene in Copers Cope Road, Beckenham.

Colin Syms, 38, who owns a pest control company, said: "I was out walking the dog and heard the bike gunning down the road, changing gear, really flooring it. He must have been travelling at between 50mph and 60mph.

"He tried to brake and the bike did an endo and he literally flew over the top.

"He didn't have any leathers, just jogging bottoms. He was wearing a helmet, but the visor smashed and the front of the bike was totally destroyed.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene

"I was expecting him to get up, but he just lay there and didn't move.

"A woman who had been waiting at the junction started working on him but just kept saying, 'there's no pulse' before the air ambulance came."

His wife Victoria, 43, said: "I heard the crash and then the driver just screaming. She was absolutely beside herself.

The rider was just wearing jogging bottoms, according to witnesses

"That junction is really dangerous. We've probably had four accidents there this week with just little bumps, so something like this was bound to happen.

"People around here have just had enough of it."

Police investigators at the crash scene

Crash scene investigators were on site this morning at the junction of Copers Cope Road and Bridge Road, Beckenham.

The biker's next of kin have been informed.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

Police are appealing for witness and anyone who saw the incident is asked to call police on 101.
