A cat has been left with broken legs after it was thrown from a fifth-storey flat in south London.

The male tabby cat was discovered lying on the pavement by a passer-by in Elmwood Road, Croydon, after the 100ft plunge.

The woman's children are understood to have witnessed the poor moggy being thrown from a window in Dartmouth House last Sunday afternoon (August 17) at about 5.30pm.

He was taken to RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital with shattered rear legs, a broken femur and a collapsed lung.

Inspectors for the animal charity are trying to trace his owner after the "distressing incident".

RSPCA inspector Nick Wheelhouse said: “Understandably this poor cat is in a really bad way and we would really like to trace the owner as soon as possible.

“It is amazing he has survived but he has broken legs and is in a bad way.

“He is in such a sorry state we feared the worst for him. He must be someone’s pet and they may be wondering where he is. When he was found he had no microchip or tag, just a blue flea collar."

He continued: “We would also like anyone with information about this incident to come forward. This would’ve been an extremely distressing incident for the cat and he has been left in a lot of pain with very serious injuries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
