TfL Tube at Christmas: When does the London Underground stop and start running?

The London Underground, a faithful friend to many a Londoner throughout the year, takes a brief period of respite over Christmas and New Year.

Though Transport for London suggests most of it will run as usual from December 23 to January 2, there will be some reduction of services.

As well as the Tube, buses will be affected as well.

Below the Standard details the service changes...

The Tube will be affected over the period
PA

Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve there will be a reduced service on the Tube from 4pm on most lines.

The Waterloo & City and Circle lines will run as usual until 10.30pm.

Last trains will be at Sunday times.

Buses will run on a Saturday service, with no night service.

Christmas Day

No Tube and no buses run on Christmas Day.

Taxi and private hire cars will be available, as will Santander cycles.

Boxing Day

Buses will run on a Sunday service.

On the Tube, there will be a reduce service on all lines.

First trains will go from 7.45am and end at weekday times.

There will be no Waterloo & City line service and no District line service between Earl's Court and Kensington (Olympia)

On the Northern line, there will be no service between Morden and Euston via Bank and no service between Morden and Camden Town via Charing Cross.

Rail replacement buses will run between Morden and Stockwell for Victoria line services.

New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve there will be a reduced service on all lines in the day and evening.

There will be a special overnight service, with free travel from 11.45pm to 4.30am on New Year's Day.

Trains run all night on all routes except for the Waterloo & City line, which stops at 2.40am.

TfL adds: "Underground stations near the fireworks event and in busy areas will be exit-only or interchange-only at times to help manage crowds safely. Stations will re-open when it is safe to do so."

New Year's Day

There will be a reduced service on all lines on New Year's Day.

First and last trains will run at weekday times.

Some buses in central London will also be diverted or stopped short due to the New Year's Day parade.
