An elderly man was taken to hospital after falling onto the tracks at a busy south London Tube station today.
Passengers told of their shock after the incident at Tooting Broadway station just before midday.
Police said the man is thought to have escaped with no serious injuries but has been taken to hospital for a checkup.
One witness tweeted: "Person under the train at tooting broadway. So very very sad. Police and fire crews doing what they can.
Another added: "Tooting Broadway closed . Some poor soul under a train."
Jen Smyth posted: "Nearly witnessed an awful incident at Tooting Broadway... Evacuated from the station."
Tim McLoughlin tweeted: "Tooting Broadway has been sealed off. Lots of emergency workers. Tube station shut."
The station reopened at 1pm after being closed for two hours.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "At 11.47am on Saturday a report was received of a person being struck by a train at Tooting Broadway London Underground Station.
"BTP, London Ambulance Service, the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police attended and an elderly male was found under a train at the scene.
"The man was released from under the train and later taken to hospital for treatment.
"There appears to be no physical injury but he is still currently being medically assessed.
"This incident is being treated as non-suspicious and an investigation is being conducted by BTP."
A Transport for London spokesman said: "There was a person on the tracks at Tooting Broadway station. British Transport Police are treating the incident as non-suspicious."
