A female pedestrian has been rushed to hospital with serious leg injuries after being hit by a bus in Trafalgar Square.

Emergency services were called to the London landmark just after 2pm after reports of a collision.

London Air Ambulance was scrambled and landed in the middle of the square before taking the woman to hospital.

Dramatic footage showed the helicopter landing in front of watching tourists before medics ran to assist the pedestrian.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, a Met police spokesman said.

There will be "unavoidable road closures" in place until further notice.

The age of the woman hit is not yet known.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 2.06pm today to Northumberland Avenue, Westminster to reports of a road traffic collision.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, a single responder in a car, a cycle responder, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer. London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

“We treated a woman for a leg injury at the scene and took her to hospital by ambulance.”
