A car burst into flames causing traffic to grind to a halt on a busy road into London.

Firefighters were called to the blaze just after 8am, which took place close to Greenford Roundabout on the A40, in west London.

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said fire crews were able to deal with the fire quickly and it was under control by 8.30am. One fire engine from Northolt attended.

The car was left completely gutted after it was engulfed by flames. No injuries were reported.

There was traffic chaos following the incident while the road was closed to traffic travelling into London during rush hour.

The road has since re-opened, but Transport for London are reporting tailbacks reaching as far as Hillingdon Circus.
