A man became trapped in a west London house after its entire first floor collapsed, leaving the roof a storey lower.

The incident, in Hatfield Road, West Ealing, unfolded just after 3pm. London Fire Brigade's urban search and rescue crews rescued a man from the debris after searching the building, and paramedics took him to hospital.

A second man has been treated for minor injuries.

"The entire second floor of an end of terrace house under construction has collapsed to first floor level," said a fire brigade spokesman.

"The brigade’s urban search and rescue crews, like those that recently travelled to Nepal, are at the scene searching the building for any casualties."

Station manager Chris Frewin, who is at the scene, added: "The urban search and rescue team have rescued a man who was trapped and he is being treated by the London Ambulance Service. Another man has also been treated for minor injuries.”
